Boys basketball: South Miami ends East Hall run at Carolina Forest Classic

MYRTLE BEACH — East Hall's impressive run at the Carolina Forest Classic came to an end Friday.

The Vikings fell 80-65 to South Miami, (Fla.) in the semifinals. South Miami has made the Final Four three consecutive years in the highest classification in Florida.

East Hall (4-5) started strong jumping out to a 10-2. But South Miami chased down the Vikings by halftime for a 34-31 lead.

Luke Holtzclaw opened the third quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers to give East Hall a 37-34 lead but South Miami exploded for a 25-6 run to close out the priod for 59-43 lead. East Hall chipped away in the fourth quarter getting as close as six points but could get over the hump.

South Miami won the game at the free throw line outscoring the Vikings 24-7 from the line.

Luke Cooper paced East Hall with 15 points and Holtzclaw finished with 14 points.

The Vikings will be off until taking on West Hall next Thursday in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament at Lakeview Academy.
