Six Jackson Co. schools complete program sponsored by sheriff's department

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson County School System recently announced the results of this year's CHAMPS (Choosing Healthy Activities & Methods Promoting Safety) Program.

The classes were presented to fifth grade students in Gum Springs Elementary School, West Jackson Elementary School, North Jackson Elementary School, East Jackson Elementary School, Maysville Elementary School, and South Jackson Elementary Schools. A total of 618 students completed and graduated from the program.

They were awarded a certificate of completion, as well as a Georgia Sheriffs’ Association CHAMPS t-shirt. Each school had a student chosen as “CHAMPS student of the year.”   Additionally, every studentparticipated in an essay contest with a winner chosen from each school.

*The following students were chosen as student of the year:

Gum Springs Elementary School – Kai Glick, Alison Iancu

West Jackson Elementary School – Andrew Phillips, Jenna Jones

North Jackson Elementary School – Ntuj Yang

Maysville Elementary School – Ahnyx Middlebrooks

South Jackson Elementary School – T.J. Erickson, Allison Zamarripa

East Jackson Elementary School- Timothy Hodges, Allison Devich

*The following students were chosen 1st and 2nd place essay winners:

Gum Springs Elementary School – 1st Ella Kofke, 2nd Andy Armstrong

West Jackson Elementary School – 1 st Daniel Lindman, 2nd McKenzie Taylor

North Jackson Elementary School – 1 st Callin Anderson, 2nd Caroline Sheridan

Maysville Elementary School- 1 st Marissa Mullins, 2nd Aidan Anglin

South Jackson Elementary School- 1 st Summer Pinkard, 2nd Damien Lumpkin

East Jackson Elementary School- 1 st Abigail Cornelius, 2nd Cowen Baldwin

This program was developed by the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association. The classes are funded by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
