On Saturday, there was a funeral for former Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Derrell Mohorn.
JCSO reported Mohorn died on March 19 at Piedmont Athens Regional due to health-related issues.
Gardenview Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements of the funeral at Galilee Christian Church at 12 p.m.
Mohorn was 39-years-old at his time of death and had friends, families, and community members speak at his funeral.
“When you have the Lord in you like Derrell had in him, that’s why he smiled, that's why his character was different,” Derrell’s mom said at the funeral.
Derrell’s mom said people called him “Smiley.”
“He did so much and kept a smile on everybody’s face,” she said. “He made everybody laugh, and if you know him, you knew he had a good sense of humor.”
Sheriff Kevin McCook also spoke at the funeral.
“He was always smiling,” McCook said. “If you have any good stories, take a moment and share with the family.”
McCook shared a story when he was present with Mohorn the day he got his pacemaker put in.
McCook said a male nurse asked him what the relation between him and Mohorn was.
“He’s my brother in Christ and he’s my brother in uniform,” McCook said.”And I’m thankful to have met him and I’m thankful for the time I got to share with him.”
