Lula leaders honor outgoing Mayor Milton Turner for 22 years of service

LULA — The Lula City Council paused during its meeting Monday night to honor a man who has given more than two decades of service to the city.

During the meeting, Councilman Marvin Moore read an appreciation plaque before presenting it to outgoing Mayor Milton Turner in front of council members and those in attendance.

“The Outstanding Civic Award for outstanding accomplishment, attainment, and achievement to the benefit of our city and community” acknowledged more than 20 years of service and leadership on behalf of the city and all its residents.

“Mayor Turner has established the standard for others to follow,” Moore read.

Several councilmen expressed their appreciation for Turner’s service to the city, and for his friendship.

“It is bittersweet,” Turner said after adjourning his last meeting. “Twenty-two years that you have served the community — it has been an honor to have served the community that long.”

Turner said he is proud of the city’s accomplishments, including the purchase of the depot.

“I just wish that our new council will continue some of the things that we have started,” Turner said. “They presented me with a plaque tonight recognizing a number of years of service, and it has been an honor to do all that stuff. I wish that some things I would have done a little bit different — we all do that — but we have a lot of things I hope we have set forth and can move forward for the future.”
