Girls basketball: Lakeview, Lumpkin, North Hall take region wins; Banks knocks off Madison

GAINESVILLE — The Lakeview Academy girls opened Region 8-A play with a 61-51 win over Athens Academy Tuesday night at the Lakeview gym.

Mattie Towles ld the Lady Lions (2-4, 1-0 Region 8-A) with 16 points. Maddie Blackburn added 13 points, including three 3-pointers, for Lakeview.

Tori Taylor and Jackie Allen scored 11 apiece for th Lady Lions.

Lakeview Academy next will play host to Commerce on Friday.


LUMPKIN COUNTY GIRLS 46,
DAWSON COUNTY 39

Lumpkin County outscored Dawson County 27-18 in the first half and then held on for a big Region 7-AAA victory at home.

The Lady Indians (3-3, 1-1 Region 7-AAA) held Dawson County (4-2, 0-1) to its lowest point total of the season.

The Lady Tigers suffered had eight players score but only Calli Watson with 12 points on four 3-pointers managed double figures. Emma Brown scored 7 points and Chloe Bennett had 6 for Dawson County.

Lumpkin County next will travel to Gilmer on Saturday in a non-region battle. Dawson County next will play host to Fannin County on Friday in another 7-AAA showdown.

 

NORTH HALL GIRLS 53,
FANNIN COUNTY 27

The Lady Trojans (4-2, 1-1 Region 7-AAA) got their first region win of the year at home.

Natalie Nixon had a big game for North Hall with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Camilla Howell added 9 points for the Lady Trojans.

North Hall next will play host to Union County on Friday in another region battle.

 

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 60,
MADISON COUNTY 53

Amber Williams posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Leopards to the win in overtime.

Allison Smith had 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and Maddie Thomas added 16 points, including three 3-pointers, for Banks County (4-1).

The Lady Leopards next will travel to East Hall on Wednesday in a makeup game from Saturday.
