Thanksgiving gas prices in Georgia expected to surge this week

Gas prices in Georgia touched $2.39 a gallon Sunday, and Triple A reports those who travel this Thanksgiving will find high prices at the pump.

Price tracking website and app GasBuddy agreed with AAA, predicting the highest average gas prices since 2014, at $2.53 this year.

There is some good news, as prices will return to normal fairly quickly, according to AAA. "Gas prices should decline 5-10 cents through Thanksgiving weekend," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman. "Although gasoline demand will be high this week, it will be cheaper for gas stations to purchase their fuel than a week ago. Since retailers profit more off of concessions in their convenience stores than the sale of gasoline, they will be more likely to lower gas prices as a way to attract passing motorists.

The most expensive gas price averages in Georgia are in Brunswick with prices at $2.43, Atlanta with $2.42, and Savannah at $2.42.

The least expensive gas price averages in Georgia are in Dalton at $2.28, Warner Robins at $2.28, and Augusta-Aiken $2.31.

GasBuddy suggests motorists avoid gas stations near the highway and at state lines to avoid potentially higher prices.
