Softball playoffs: Stephens County moves on; East Hall, Jefferson fall

By AccessWDUN

DOUGLASVILLE — Emma Whitfield was all Stephens County needed Thursday in the deciding game three against Chapel Hill in the Class AAAA playoffs.

Whitfield belted a solo home run in the second inning and then stymied the Lady Panthers on the mound to propel the Lady Indians to a nail-biting 1-0 victory.

The win moves Stephens County into the Elite 8 round in Columbus next week.

Whitfield went the distance on the mound scattering three hits and striking out five to outduel Chapel Hill's Kira Morgan, who also allowed just three hits and fanned three.

Bailey Dobbs, Whitfield, and Alanna Dunson all had one hit for Stephens County.

The Lady Indians will play Northwest Whitfield in the first game of the Class AAAA Elite 8 tournament on Oct. 26 at 5 p.m.

In other Game 3 action around the area Thursday, East Hall fell 6-4 to Bremen at East Hall Park in its best-of-3 Class AAA second round series. Also, Jefferson lost 4-3 to Northwest Whitfield in its Class AAAA second round series.
