GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville girls volleyball team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Class AAAAAA volleyball playoffs with a sweep of River Ridge at home on Thursday.
The Lady Red Elephants got another big game from Savannah Roys in taking 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 victory.
Roys finished with 12 kills, 2 aces, 18 assists, and 7 digs to lead Gainesville. Kenley Jordan added 19 kills and 6 digs and Isabella Appling had 3 aces and 10 digs for the Lady Red Elephants.
Anna Wylie had 5 kills and Camille Holcomb added 20 assists.
Gainesville next will play host to perennial power Pope on Tuesday with a chance to make the Elite 8 for the first time since advancing to the Class AAA quarterfinals in 2011. The Red Elephants lost in the second in each of the last two seasons.
