TALLULAH FALLS — The Lakeview Academy boys basketball team took a big step toward the No. 1 seed in the Region 8-A tournament on Tuesday night in taking a tough, 59-51 victory over Tallulah Falls in a battle of region unbeatens.
The Lions (15-5, 10-0 Region 8-A) got 15 points and eight rebounds from Josh Randolph, and Adam Cottrell added 13 points as Lakeview took a one-game lead over the Indians (19-1, 9-1).
"It was a fun game. Both teams played hard and we were able to make a few more shots on a tough shooting night for both teams," Lakeview coach Todd Cottrell said.
The two teams will meet again next Wednesday (Feb. 1) in Gainesville.
"It was a big win and it helps to give us a little bit of a cushion," Cottrell said.
Evan Pitts also pulled down eight rebounds for Lakeview Academy.
The Lions can win out and take the regular season crown. They will travel to Prince Avenue on Wednesday.
Tallulah Falls travels to Athens Academy on Friday in Region 8-A matchups.
