'Gainesville Goes Gold' calls attention to childhood cancer

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
Gainesville is planning a family night event Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. on the downtown square to call attention to childhood cancer.

According to a statement from the city, there are more than 20 children fighting this battle "just in our community alone."

In addition to the Thursday evening event, the Rotary Tree in the center of town has been decorated with gold bows in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

"Gainesville Goes Gold" will feature, among other things, a food truck, face painting, corn hole, games and a petting zoo.  Proceeds will benefit Cure Childhood Cancer.
