BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Piedmont College women's golf team finished the 2016 fall opener 8th of 15 teams at the Southern Shootout in coach Susan Martin's first tournament at the helm of the program. Round two was all about consistency as the Lady Lions' five competitors finished within three strokes of one another.
The last time the Lady Lions had five athletes finish a round within four strokes of each other was on October 13, 2009 with this year's squad doing one better finishing the second round within three strokes of one another.
Piedmont had three 84's shot in round two by Jana Guy, Jordan Abbott and Charli Justice while Ashton Mamula had an 85 and Kensley Brown shot an 86. In last year's 'Southern Shootout, Piedmont had four golfers with an 84 in round two as Guy and Justice both accomplished the feat two years in a row.
Guy led the program with a 164 two-round score shooting an 84 in the second round while Brown held on to finish second on the team with an 86 in the second round for a 165 total. Freshman Abbott continued her hot start carding an 84 and finshing one stroke behind Brown with a 166 two-round score.
Mamula and Justice were separated by just two strokes overall as Mamula had a 174 total with Justice scoring a 176. The Lady Lions scored a 667 as a team finishing ahead of seven schools including Greensboro College and Maryville College.
