BUFORD — In a battle of two of the state's best, Class AAAAA No. 1-ranked Buford held off Class AAAAAAA third-ranked North Gwinnett 2-1 Tuesday at home.
Junior Logan Caymol (4-0) stayed unbeaten on the season tossing a complete game allowing three hits while walking five and striking out five to earn the win.
Senior Samantha Thomas drove in both of the Buford runs, one on first inning double scoring Mariah Wicker and later on a fielder’s choice grounder to short driving Arielle Oda.
North Gwinnett's only run came on a Chandler Dennis home run in the top of the first.
Wicker finished with two hits and Rebecca Wilson added a double for the Lady Wolves.
Buford (8-0) next will take on Cambridge on Wednesday in a battle of No. 1 teams. Cambridge currently sits atop the Class AAAAAA rankings.
