North Forsyth rolls past Sequoyah behind big night from Bales

COAL MOUNTAIN — Junior quarterback Ben Bales threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns to lead North Forsyth to a 34-14 victory over Sequoyah Friday night.

The Raiders (1-0) scored the final 27 points of the game and erased a pair of Sequoyah leads. The Chiefs opened the game with a 94-yard kickoff return and then took a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter.

It was all North Forsyth after that.

Bales got hot with three touchdown passes in the second quarter. Bales connected with Clayton Bardall on a pair of long TD throws of 32- and 64-yards to give the Raiders the lead for good at 21-14. Bales and Simon Holcomb combined for a 29 yard touchdown pass to cap the 21-point quarter for a 28-14 halftime lead.

Bales and Holcomb would strike again in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard scoring pass to cap the win.

Holcomb finished with five catches for 87 yards and two scores and Bardall had two catches for 96 yards and two scores.

Griffin Heffington paced the Raiders on the ground with 57 yards on 16 carries, including a 4-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to tie the game at 7.

North Forsyth piled up 400 yards of offense while the defense held the Chiefs to just 157 total yards for the game.
