Authorities seize guns, one stolen, in arrest of Gainesville man

Authorities arrested a Gainesville man on outstanding warrants Wednesday, seizing three firearms, one of them stolen, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.
 
Derrace Reshand Damons, 35, of Autumn Drive, faces several charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  
 
The sheriff's office and Gainesville Police Department coordinated efforts to apprehend Damons on outstanding arrest warrants for stalking, terroristic threats and the firearms charge.  Gainesville Police took out the initial warrants, according to Hall County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ware.
 
During a search of Damons' residence prior to his arrest, investigators seized body armor, multiple rounds of ammunition, a semi-automatic shotgun, a .22 cal. rifle and an AR15 semi-automatic rifle. The AR15 was confirmed to have been stolen, Ware wrote in a media release.
 
Hall County Sheriff's investigators arrested Damons near Marina Bay subdivision on Cool Springs Road.  The Georgia State Patrol and Hall County Multi Agency Narcotics Squad were also involved in the arrest effort.
 
Damons was additionally charged with misdemeanor child abandonment .  He's also being held in the Hall County Jail on a State Court bench warrant and child support arrest order.
 
"Additional charges are anticipated in this case. This case remains under investigation by ATF Agents and HCSO Investigators," Ware wrote in the release.
