By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Three Hall County teachers have been named 2016 C.W. Davis Scholars and will receive $500 scholarships toward their pursuit of advanced degrees.

They are:

*Lindsey Erickson, who teaches 6th grade Language Arts at C.W. Davis Middle School. She is pursuing her Masters Degree in Middle Grades ELA at Piedmont College. In her application she stated, “The students I teach inspire me with their curiosity, teach me to have patience and love, and overall make me a better person.”

*Joshua Manfroni, who teaches Music, K-5, at Chestnut Mountain Elementary School. He is attending the University of Georgia to earn his Masters in Music Education. Mr. Manfroni’s goal is not simply to teach his students; he strives for his students to “develop a love for the arts and a vision for how music applies to their own lives and who they are.”

*Shenley Rountree, who teaches Work-Based Learning at West Hall High School.  Rountree will be pursuing an Education Specialist degree in School Leadership at the University of Georgia. Her teaching goal is to prepare students for future careers and eventually to move into educational leadership to empower more students to be successful in career and life.

The scholarship honors retired, longtime Hall County educator C. W. Davis.

Davis attended Vanderbilt University and the University of Georgia and was named principal of the original Flowery Branch High School in 1953. In 1960, he founded the Lanierland Basketball Tournament, which continues to this day. After serving as principal of South Hall High School, he became superintendent of Hall County Schools from 1977 – 1983. C.W. Davis Middle School was named in his honor in 1999.

The scholarship has been established in his honor to assist current Hall County teachers as they pursue an advanced degree and life-long career in education and is administered by the North Georgia Community Foundation.
