Pulliam selected to fill school board vacancy in White County

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio

The  White County Board of Education has selected someone to fill the vacancy on the board following the resignation earlier this year of Roger Fitzpatrick, who stepped down to for Georgia's 9th District Congressional post.

Thursday night the board held interviews with District 2 citizens who had applied for the position.  Following in-person questioning for three of the candidates, and reviewing written information submitted by a fourth, the board made a selection.

Brock Pulliam, 46, who lives in the Mossy Creek area was selected by unanimous vote. Pulliam, who grew up in Hall County and then moved to White County, is a floor covering salesman. Pulliam's wife is a teacher at White County Middle School.

Board Chair Kendyl Brock-Hunter, said the decision was challenging.

"It was a tough decision but we found the person that we feel will fit the best during this interim time,” she said.

The other candidates were Charlie Bryson and Rick Farmer, who were interviewed in person, and Robin Churchwell, who was unable to attend the interview session, but submitted written information for the board to consider.

Brock-Hunter said she is not sure when Pulliam will take his seat on the board

"We will meet with [Election Superintendent] Garrison Baker and get his input on when the seat can take place and when the individual can be sworn in and then move forward, she said.

Pulliam will fill the position until a special election in November.

Qualifying for that special election has not yet been announced by Baker.
