VIDEO: Gwinnett officials searching for arson suspect

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Gwinnett County authorites are looking for a suspect in a Lawrenceville barber shop fire that has been ruled an arson.

The fire happened just after midnight on March 17 at the Family Hair Stop barber shop on Hurricane Shoals Road off of Buford Drive according to a release from the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. The blaze caused moderate damage to the exterior of the building as well as some smoke damage. Gwinnett County Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge said the fire did not do as much damage as it could have.

"Fortunately, the roof did not ignite, which could have caused even greater damage to the structure," Rutledge said.

During the investigation, officials discovered an ignitable liquid on the outside of the building and on the roof. Authorities have since reviewed security footage and found video of a man carrying what appeared to be a gas canister to the back of the building and placing it by a doorway. Police are looking for information about that suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Gwinnett County Fire Investigators at 678-518-4890 or Gwinnett County Police at 770-513-5911.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
