Girls basketball: Dawson County advances in Commerce Christmas Classic

COMMERCE — Dawson County used a 12-4 fourth quarter run to pull away for a 45-34 win over Stephens County Tuesday in the first round of the Commerce Christmas Classic.

The Lady Tigers (4-9) will play Madison County Thursday at 4 p.m. in the second round.

Dawson County opened strong taking a 14-8 lead after the first quarter. But Stephens County rallied to tie the game at 18 by halftime. The Lady Tigers took a 33-30 lead into the fourth quarter.

Abi Chatham led the second half charge with 20 of her game-high 23 points after halftime for Dawson County. Cadey Ayers and Kaylee Sticker each scored seven points for the Lady Tigers, who snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory.

Stephens County fell to 0-12 with the loss.
