Officials investigating cause of Rabun County house fire

Officials in Rabun County are continuing their investigation of the fire that destroyed a home in the county Saturday night.

"Station 12 was dispatched initially to a report of a brush fire in the Eastman Mountain area at around 10:16 p.m.," said Rabun County Fire Services Assistant Chief Justin Upchurch. "While en route to that call, Station 12’s captain saw a fire through the trees on Carnes Road."

That fire turned out to be a fully-involved doublewide mobile home. Rabun County stations 12, 3, 4 and 1 responded to that fire. The fire was knocked down about 11 p.m., and personnel remained on scene until 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Upchurch said.

"No one had lived in it for the last week or two," Upchurch said of the home. "The cause is under investigation."

Upchurch said the initial brush fire call on Eastman Mountain ended up being from the fire on Flint Mountain a few days earlier and was burning inside the black area already charred, posing no danger.
