Georgia Dugout Club honors Gainesville High coaches, player

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Georgia Dugout Club recently honored several members of the Gainesville High baseball program for their stellar 2015 season.

Head coach Jeremy Kemp, assistant coach Adam Miller and graduated catcher/pitcher Michael Curry were all honored, as was the Red Elephant's Ivey-Watson Field in the Dugout Club's year-end awards ceremony.

Kemp was named the Class AAAAA Coach of the Year after leading Gainesville to a 29-8 record and the Class AAAAA title series -- the Red Elephants' first state title appearance since 2002 -- where the Red Elephants fell at Greenbrier in a three-game series plagued by weather delays.

Meanwhile, Miller was named the Cliff Shelton Assistant Coach of the Year.

Of the many standout players from last season, Curry was honored as the Class AAAAA Player of the Year after batting .412 with 15 home runs, 44 RBI and four stolen bases. Curry is now on the roster for the University of Georgia.

And Gainesville's home field of Ivey-Watson was named as the Class AAAAA Baseball Field of the Year.
