CUMMING - State Senator Steve Gooch unveiled the renaming of a portion of Highway 306 in Forsyth County for a former Georgia DOT Chief Engineer Saturday morning in Cumming.
According to a press release from the Georgia DOT, The stretch of the highway running rom Highway 53 to Highway 400 has been dedicated as Frank L. Danchetz Highway. Danchetz, who died at the age of 66 in January, worked with the DOT for 34 years spending the last 10 as chief engineer. Gooch, who sponsored State Resolution 126 to rename the road, said the dedication is well deserved.
"Frank focused on improving safety and mobility for Georgians through his 34 year career at Georgia DOT," Gooch said, "Naming this road is a fitting honor for this Georgia transportation icon."
Gooch said Danchetz also represented Georgia on multiple national transportation committees during his career including the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials and the Transportation Research Board. Several others spoke at the unveiling, including DOT Commissioner Russell McMurry and Danchetz's wife, Dorothy.
"The dedication of SR 306 to his memory is a wonderful tribute to a roadway man, well loved, and who loved and lived well," said Dorothy Danchetz. "Thank you for remembering Frank."
