The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Friday several upcoming traffic changes throughout Northeast Georgia.
A triple lane closure will begin nightly on I-85 Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. for milling and paving. Lanes four and five starting at Steve Reynolds Blvd. progressing towards Jimmy Carter Blvd. will be closed throughout the weekend, and reopen at 4 a.m. on Aug. 19. All ramps will remain open to traffic.
In Gwinnett County, the permanent closure of South Cedars Rd. from the intersection of State Route 316 and Cedars Rd. will go into effect on Aug. 19. The closure is a part of a series of projects on Ga. 316 to improve mobility throughout the corridor.
GDOT will also begin a daily lane closure to complete asphalt patching on SR 17 through Lavonia in Franklin County. Those closures will begin on Aug. 19 and end on Aug. 29. The lane will close at 8:30 a.m. and re-open at 3 p.m. each day of the project.
Additionally, nightly lane closures between Windward Pkwy. and McFarland Pkwy will continue until Aug. 30. The closures are a part of a project to remove the old McGinnis Ferry Road bridge at SR 400. Single lane closures begin at 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday. The closures will be from 9 p.m. to 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the lanes will close at 9 p.m. and reopen at 5:30 a.m.
As work continues throughout the region, GDOT advised that drivers should expect delays, consider alternate routes, and use caution while driving in these areas.
