GAINESVILLE - A second defendant went on trial Friday morning in Hall County Superior Court in a 2013 case involving charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault, one day after a co-defendant was convicted on two of the seven counts facing him.
Testimony got underway Friday morning in the case of Shamarcus Grimes of Lawrenceville. Thursday, Ronta Antonio Garner, also of Lawrenceville, was convicted of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison by Superior Court Judge C. Andrew Fuller but was found not guilty of another aggravated assault charge, attempted armed robbery, two counts of false imprisonment; and cruelty to children.
Grimes and Garner were charged in connection with an incident in October 2013 at Ridgecrest Apartments in Gainesville. (See earlier stories for details.
