Second October shooting suspect in custody

By Derreck Booth Anchor/reporter
LAWRECEVILLE - The second suspect in an October 30 shooting at the Ridgecrest Apartments in Gainesville last year was behind bars Friday.

Gainesville Police Corporal Kevin Holbrook said the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Shamarcus Deunte Grimes, 26, of Lawrenceville. He was arrested in Lawrenceville, according to Holbrook.

Holbrook had no other details surrounding the latest arrest. No one from the task force returned a call for details surrounding the arrest.

Police last fall named Grimes and Ronta Antonio Garner, 33, also of Lawrenceville, as suspects in the shooting. Police said the male victim was shot in the abdomen and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Authorities with the Hall County Sheriff's Office arrested Garner on December 28. Riding a motorcycle, he allegedly led deputies on a brief chase before his arrest.

Prior to his capture, police said Garner was listed as a member of the 243 Bloods Gang.
