Habersham EMC provides update on outages, facility damage

CLARKESVILLE - Habersham Electric Membership Corp. officials have provided an update on service interruptions and facility damage that occurred during Monday afternoon's severe thunderstorms in North Georgia.

Just after 11 a.m., HEMC Director of Marketing and Communications Nicole Dover said at the peak of the storm roughly 2,400 HEMC members were without power.

Included in that number were 715 in Habersham, 11 in Hall, 581 in Lumpkin, 543 in Rabun, and 1,839 in White. There were no reported HEMC outages in Stephens County.

All but two of those members had power restored as of Tuesday morning.

"The roof of the warehouse and truck shed at the HEMC headquarters in Clarkesville did sustain wind damage," Dover said. "Some small trees on the campus were also damaged."

Dover said the trucks inside the truck shed were not damaged.

As far as HEMC officials can tell, this is the first time their facility has been damaged by a storm, Dover said.
