Minor fire prompts evacuation of Mall of Georgia

BUFORD - A minor fire in a kiosk at the Mall of Georgia prompted an evacuation of the mall shortly after it closed Wednesday evening.

Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a cell phone kiosk on the main level of the mall near the Regal Cinemas entrance around 9:14 p.m.

Mall security had already evacuated the building and doused the fire with an extinguisher before firefighters arrived, according to the fire department.

Fire officials attributed the fire to paper in a cabinet of the kiosk.  They said it was sparked by and un-attended heat gun.  There were no injuries and no damage to the kiosk.

Smoke in the area near the kiosk was quickly evacuated by the mall ventilation system, according to the fire department.
