Jackson Co. accident causes delays on I-85

JEFFERSON - A tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 85 South near Dry Pond Road in Jackson County Thursday afternoon, backing up afternoon traffic for about five miles.
 
A press release from Jackson County EMA states that a two-vehicle accident between a tractor-trailer and another vehicle. Crews arrived just after 2 p.m. and found the tractor-trailer/tanker truck overturned and leaking latex paint and fuel.
 
Jefferson Fire, Rescue and HazMat contained the fuel leak. EMS treated and released one person at the scene.
 
The southbound lane was closed for about 30 minutes to clear the hazard, but at last report, crews remained on scene and were causing delays in both directions and one lane of I-85 South is open. EMA Director Steve Nichols said in an email that the entire road is expected to reopen in about two hours.
 
Nichols said a wrecker is on scene, and the Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
