HIAWASSEE — John Ward poured in 24 points to go with 18 rebounds to lead White County to a 61-45 win over Hokes Bluff (Ala.) Monday in the first round of the Battle of the States Tournament at Towns County High School.
Brad Hurst added 12 points and 16 rebounds for the Warriors (10-3). Whit Mauney had 17 points for White County.
The Warriors next will take on Hayesville (N.C.) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
