JEFFERSON — Mike Paul is stepping down as the Jefferson girls volleyball coach after one of the most successful runs in the sport in the area.
Paul led the Lady Dragons to a 277-121 record during his nine-year tenure, which inlcuded eight trips to the state tournament. He led Jefferson to the Class AA Final Four in 2013 and an Elite 8 appearance in Class AAA this past season. The Lady Dragons also finished in the final top 10 rankings each of the past six seasons.
"I am confident in saying that Jefferson volleyball is on the state radar now," Paul said. "We have not done this by chance. We have had many great players, assistant coaches, parents, and administrators who have given so much to each other and the program."
Paul said he is stepping down to take a special education position at Wade Hampton High School in Varnville, S.C. and will start his new job this month.
"There is some sadness in stepping down as I have always tried to put the needs of this program first," Paul said. "This time, however, I am putting my family first."
