Class AAA volleyball: Jefferson knocks off East Hall, advances to state quarterfinals

GAINESVILLE — The Jefferson girls volleyball team advanced to the state quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory over East Hall Tuesday in the Class AAA state tournament.

The Lady Dragons (36-7) defeated the Lady Vikings 25-17, 25-13, 15-25, 25-12 to advance. 

The teams will be reseeded for the third round, which is slated to begin on Saturday.

Jefferson was paced by Abby Wood, who had four aces to go with 13 kills and 15 digs. Darien Matlock had 10 digs and Olivia Przybysz had three kills, three assists, and 23 digs for the Lady Dragons.

Grace Haney added four kills, 21 assists, and five digs, Lindsey Nilsen had eight kills, Mary Carson had eight kills, and Savanna Davis had five kills and three digs.

For East Hall, Minette Maldonado had six points on serve with 12 kills and 15 digs and Savannah Thellman had 10 points scored on serve with two kills, nine digs and 18 assists. Summer Lindsey had 22 digs, Lorna Ayon had 13 digs, and Holly Poole had six points scored on serve with 10 digs for the Lady Vikings. Jessica Chmiel had two kills and four digs, Cassida Shockley had four points on serve with seven kills and four digs, Niyah Rucker had five kills and Rachel McGee had two kills.

East Hall finished 35-14 and the senior class won 138 games in their four years.
