Another wet weekend ahead

PEACHTREE CITY - Brace yourself for a possible repeat of last weekend's rainy weather starting Saturday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says North and Central Georgia can expect 1-3 inches of rain from Saturday afternoon into Sunday. Rain is expected to be heavy at times and forecasters say "minor to moderate" flooding is possible.

Temperatures won't be as warm as they were last weekend but are still expected to remain above freezing, even in most mountain areas.

Last weekend, record and near-record highs were recorded in some places with Gainesville coming within a degree of tying the record for Dec. 22. Rainfall Dec. 22 in Gainesville set a record for the date. The old record was 1.65 inches in 1968.

The outlook for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day calls for highs in Gainesville in the upper 40s and low 50s and lows in the low- to mid-30s with a chance of rain returning on Thursday, the second day of the New Year.
