Storm drain sends home owner to city council

By Jerry Gunn
GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville woman is hoping the Gainesville City Council will help her with a storm drain problem she says she just can't take anymore.

Eleanor Moore who lives at 406 Mountain View Drive just off Thompson Bridge Road brought her plumbing contractor with her to Thursday's council work session, pleading for help. She said the storm drain overflow is damaging her property and the erosion is causing damage she cannot afford to fix.

"I really feel I need cooperation from the city to help me with this water situation...with the storm drain," Moore said.

Plumbing contractor Dwight Whitmire of Whitmire Plumbing and Electric said he had installed new pipe but advised Moore to seek the city's help. Damage to her home includes a washed-out carport, which will have to be replaced.

Mayor Pro Tem Danny Dunagan said they would take Moore's appeal under advisement but was not prepared to say yet if the city can help.
