Girl, 9, rescued from Chattahoochee, dies

By The Associated Press
CUMMING - Authorities say a 9-year-old girl, who was pulled from the Chattahoochee River by rescuers after she went missing while tubing on the river north of Atlanta, has died.

Forsyth County fire officials say the girl was taken to Northside Hospital in Forsyth County, where she was in critical condition Friday evening. However, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office reported that she died later in the evening.

The youngster, now identified as Anna Van Horn of Peachtree City, was tubing with other young people in the Settles Bridge Park area near the Forsyth and Gwinnett County line when the accident happened shortly before 5 p.m.

Authorities say two other teens in the group got out of the water safely.
