GAINESVILLE - Several kittens were saved from a burning mobile home in the East Hall area early Sunday evening and their owner was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center suffering from smoke inhalation.

Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said the fire occurred about 7:30 in the 5100 block of Old Cornelia Highway.

Kimbrell said there was heavy smoke showing from the double-wide when the first units arrived.

"Crews made an attack and knocked down the main body of the fire in the kitchen area," Chief Kimbrell said. "Several kittens were rescued from the structure. The occupant was checked on scene and later transported to the medical center for (treatment of) smoke inhalation."

Kimbrell said the kittens were turned over to Hall County Animal Control for sheltering and Red Cross was called in to assist the homeowner with sheltering.

He added that the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen from cooking. Damage was put at around $30,000.
