Buford teen texts friends for help during attack

By The Associated Press
LAWRENCEVILLE - A Buford teenager's friends came to her rescue after she texted for help during an attack.

The 16-year-old told police she was walking home on Aug. 20 when she was attacked. The police report says the suspect jumped out of a car, grabbed the girl's neck and forced her into the woods.

The teen told police two other men in the car yelled at her attacker. While her head was down, she was able to text her location to a friend.

The attacker and the other men fled when the girl's friends arrived. Gwinnett County police arrested 19-year-old Jose Hernandez-Ruiz Tuesday and charged him with kidnapping and sexual battery. He was being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center Friday.

The police report says the victim was not physically injured.
