HOPE scholarship concerns

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
ATLANTA - Concerns are growing over the HOPE Scholarship because lottery income is not keeping up with the demand for the scholarships.

It was just a few weeks ago that lottery officials said that despite the recession, ticket sales were good.

But, Georgia News Network reported Monday morning lottery income is not keeping up with the cost of HOPE, the popular college scholarship program that lottery proceeds fund. Officials say that if the numbers continue their current trend, book fees will start to drop in a couple of years.

After that, the mandatory fee payments will start dropping, as well.
