GAINESVILLE - Hall County's School System learned this week that its emphasis on rigor is paying off.
Five Hall County high school graduates are now Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholars for this year.
Rigor Specialist Dr. Sally Krisel said ordinarily only one student per system gets qualified for the competitive scholarship.
This year only 20 scholarships were awarded in Congressional District 9 and Hall County students received 25% of those.
Each Byrd Scholar receives a $1500 award for tuition costs at any college they choose to attend with the exception of military academies.
Hall County's 2009 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholars are:
·Kiersten Sapp, Chestatee High School
·Michael Young, Flowery Branch High School
·James Bellamy, Johnson High School
·Tyler Johnson, North Hall High School
·Brittany Farmer, West Hall High School
