GGC breaks ground on student center

By The Associated Press
LAWRENCEVILLE - The state's newest four-year college broke ground Thursday morning for its first official student center.

The Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) complex will encompass 77,000 square feet. The four-story building will house a dining hall, bookstore and student affairs offices.

The $24 million project is expected to be completed by fall 2010, the same time the campus will open its first dorm.

Georgia Gwinnett opened its doors in 2006 with just 100 students. The college expects nearly 3,000 students to enroll this fall.

It is the state's first public four-year college in more than a century.
