Prosecutors: Ahmed led conspiracy

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Prosecutors say the Dawsonville man charged in a terrorism conspiracy was dubbed the leader of a group that planned to join a terrorist training camp in Pakistan.

Investigators said Tuesday that 24-year-old Syed Haris Ahmed told his suspected cohorts that their goal was to travel to Pakistan or Iraq to wage a violent jihad.

Ahmed's attorney has contended that Ahmed was an immature, misguided student who fell victim to anti-American propaganda on Internet sites.

Ahmed is on trial for conspiracy to provide material support to terrorism in the U.S. and abroad. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
