UNDATED - At least one person was killed by a falling tree Monday morning as a severe storm system moved across Georgia... with 50-60 trees reported on the ground in Hall County alone.

Atlanta Fire Rescue Department spokesman Capt. Bill May says the fatality occurred when a tree fell on a car in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood. He didn't know the victim's name or age.

In north Georgia, no one was injured and no major damage was reported when gusty winds caused a tree to fall across the front lawn of the Norton Agency on Green Street in Gainesville Monday morning.

The manager of the Georgia Power office in Gainesville, Darrell Snyder, said that at mid-morning "thousands" of Georgia Power customers were wihtout power in Hall County.

"Our outages by districts are in Gwinnett (approximately 17,000); Jefferson (approximately 8,000); Neese (approximately 4,800); and Gainesville (approximately 1,100)," spokeswoman K.D. Bryant said. "Line crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power. Crews are reporting downed trees in roadways where they are having to cut their way in to get to the lines"

To report outages, Jackson EMC members should call their local office and use the Automated Outage Reporting System or for those whoâ
