School vandalism apparently tied to big football game

GAINESVILLE - Mount Vernon Elementary School, which was hit by spray-painting vandals overnight Thursday, may not have been the original target.

Based on what was written, it appears to have been aimed at North Hall High and Friday night's big football game with the Gainesville High Red Elephants.

Hall County school officials say North Hall may have been the original target, but the vandals may have been deterred by extra security which was in place at that school overnight.

"Go Big Red" was spray-painted on "two or three" portable classrooms at Mount Vernon and profanities directed at North Hall were found elsewhere on its campus.
