Police involved shooting in Buford

BUFORD - A Gwinnett County policeman shot and wounded an accused robber/kidnapper early Monday in Buford.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Illana Spellman said it happened about 1:30 and followed a report of an armed robbery at a residence on Thompson Mill road. Spellman said responding officers were told that someone broke into the residence, took several items and then left with a roommate in the roommate's SUV.

The vehicle was later spotted by a Gwinnett police office on Arden Drive in Buford. Spellman said the car stopped and the driver, wearing a bandana that covered his face, got out and approached the officer, "brandished a weapon" and was shot by the officer.

She said the suspect was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
