GAINESVILLE - An early morning house fire that caused about $5,000 worth of damage has been determined accidental.
Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada said no one was hurt in the blaze, which broke out around 3 a.m. Wednesday, although there were six people in the house at the time.
"The homeowner awoke during the night to the smell of smoke," Canada said. "He got up, got his family up and called the fire department. And he went ahead and got his family out."
Canada said firefighters arrived on the scene and determined the cause to be faulty wiring.
"They discovered a small fire in the attic. They were able to extinguish the fire and keep the damage to the attic."
The 1,400-square-foot home is located on 1207 South Enota Drive.
