Nearly 2 inches of rain in Gainesville

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
UNDATED - The 1.64 inches of rain that fell in Gainesville Wednesday was the most for any single day since Aug. 26, when the remnants of Hurricane Fay were moving through North Georgia.

Just over 4 inches (4.14) fell at the Gainesville airport that day. Elsewhere, Cleveland reported 2.20 inches of rain Wednesday, while Buford recorded .71 inch.

Meanwhile, the level of Lake Lanier was up a tenth of a foot Thursday morning from 24 hours earlier and was at 1,053.66.

However, it had been continuing a steady decline since August, and was down another one half foot the first eight days of this month.
