9-day celebration to mark opening of Freedom Garden

GAINESVILLE - As construction continues on the Freedom Garden at the Northeast Georgia History Center, plans are falling into place for a nine-day dedicatory celebration for it in May.

It's scheduled to begin May 19 and continue through Monday, May 28, Memorial Day.

Most of that time is set aside for special groups but on Sunday the 27 and on Memorial Day, the general public is invited for a History Center open house and tours of the Freedom Garden.

John W. Jacobs , Jr., the project chairman, says construction is on schedule.

SCHEDULE FOR THE DEDICATORY CELEBRATION TO BE HELD AT THE HISTORY CENTER:


*Saturday, May 19, America's Armed Forces Day 11:00-3:00. Informal Brunch Buffet (11:30 -1:00) & tours for Freedom Garden Sponsors (Sponsors represent contributors Of $1,500 to $50,000)

*Sunday, May 20, 1:30- 4:00. Tours and Dessert Reception for Freedom Garden Donors & Honore es (Donors who are contributors of $295 and above, and all Military Veterans, as honore es of the Freedom Garden and their families are invited)

*Tuesday through Saturday, May 21-26, 10:00-4:00. Welcome tours of the Freedom Garden for all current History Center members.

*Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) 1:30-4:00. History Center Open House and tours of the Freedom Garden for general public.
