No more bears

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The bear threat at a campground near Helen is over - and it's okay to go back in the woods.

The U.S. Forest Service says Low Gap Campground has reopened after being closed a month ago because of bear sightings in the area.

Officials say the black bears have moved on because of the absence of people since the campground was closed and the food they bring with them.

There might be another reason though: bear bow hunting season is open - and officials say it's highly unlikely the bears will return anytime soon.
