GB&T announces holiday donations

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Bank & Trust officials Thursday announced a special holiday contribution - made in honor of GB&T customers - to two local charities. United Way of Hall County and Good News Clinics each received $5,000 as recipients of this first annual holiday tradition.

The presentation was made by GB&T's CEO, Richard Hunt, and President Mike Whitmire.

"GB&T has always been dedicated to supporting our local community, annually providing over $250,000 in support of the many worthwhile civic and charitable organizations that serve the businesses and individuals in Hall County," Hunt said. "From schools and health care organizations to children's groups and the local arts, we are pleased to be in a position to support those who support our community. This year, we made the decision to step up our efforts and make these donations in honor of our customers."

Whitmire added, "We can think of no better way to honor our customers during this holiday season. We are so fortunate to live in a community with a support system that includes vital organizations like United Way and Good news Clinics, and we at GB&T are pleased to be able to give back to our community in this way."

GB&T officials said the two organizations were selected because of their "broad outreach of services in meeting the needs of our community and in support of expanded services to help sustain the future growth and development in North Georgia."

Dr. Richard Bennett, chairman of the Good News Clinics Board of Directors, said "The $5,000 will enable us to see about 150 patients. Our cost per patient is around $33." The clinics provide free health and dental care to the needy in the community who meet income guidelines.

Perry Tomlinson, this year's campaign chairman for United Way and United Way President Tom Jones, both noted GB&T's generosity in making the donations, noting that the bank is going "above and beyond" its normal charitable giving. The United Way donation is in addition to its usual corporate and employee contributions during the agency's annual campaign.
