Census Bureau: Hall population now 160,000+

By by Ken Stanford
WASHINGTON - The population of Hall County has probably topped the 160,000 mark, according to the Census Bureau.

The latest population estimate shows an increase of 4,564 between July 1 2003 and July 1 2004. The 2000 Census showed a population in of 139,315.

Gwinnett County reflects the largest increase in the state, about 23,000.

The number of people living in the state is now estimated at 8,829,383 - up about 600,000 from a year earlier. Metro Atlanta is closing in on 4 million and much of Hall County's growth can be attributed to spillover from that area.
