Charlie Frierson dies

GAINESVILLE - A well-known retired Gainesville businessman and civic leader died over the weekend.<br> <br> Charlie Frierson died Saturday at his home following an extended illness.<br> <br> He retired from the retail clothing business in 1994 after operating Frierson&#39;s, a men&#39;s clothing store in downtown Gainesville for years.<br> <br> He was a former chairman of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center&#39;s Lovelight Campaign and chamber of commerce board member and held numerous positions with the Gainesville Rotary Club of which he had been a member since 1951. Frierson, who was 79, was also a former civil service board member, youth football referee and parks and recreation board member.<br> <br> The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.
