GAINESVILLE - Chestatee hit 34-of-48 free throws for the game, including 17 from Tiffany Haynes, to beat Elbert County 64-57 in the consolation game of the Chestatee Tip-off Classic Saturday afternoon.

All 17 points from junior point guard Haynes came from the free throw line, 14 in the second half when her team needed them most. She was 17-of-22 overall from the line.

"My job is make things happen and get to the basket and I tried to do that. I felt confident at the line and fortunately I was able to knock them down," Haynes said.

Anna Bailey, who was named to the All-Tournament team, paced Chestatee (1-2) with 18 points.

It was the first win for first-year coach Web Daniel.

"It feels nice to get that one. It was a good win for us because (Elbert) is a solid team that probably will make to the playoffs out of Region 8-AAA. It shows that when we come to play, we can compete," Daniel said.

Julie Arthur added 8 points and Virginia Hill 6 for Chestatee.

In the championship game Saturday night, Class AA No. 8 Greater Atlanta Christian rolled past Shaw 75-58 to take the championship.

D'May Daniels, who was named tournament MVP, paced GAC (2-1) with 18 points. Kiki Swanier added 13 and Julie Stevens 12 for the Lady Spartans.

GAC led from start to finish and built a double-digit late in the first quarter and only twice did Shaw (1-1) cut the lead to as low as 13 points in the second half.

Shaw was led by Treasure Johnson with 25 points and Kanisha Oxford with 10.

Shaw's Johnson and Rashida Brown, along with Bailey of Chestatee, Elbert's Monique Carter, and Bria Smith of GAC, were named to the All-Tournament team.
